Well, happy 4th of July! It has been a very good one for us, although I'm not sure how much I like a mid-week holiday, especially the 4th. It's almost as good as when 4th falls on Sunday. We woke up bright and early - thank you Hannah - and got ready for LibertyFest in Edmond. This is touted as one of the biggest 4th of July celebrations in Oklahoma. The festivities run for about 1 week, but we just decided to participate in the 4th of July stuff. The day starts
with a parade and ends with fireworks. We found our spot along the parade route and began to wait. Hannah did well, I think because she could watch everyone. The parade reached us about 9:15 and lasted 2 hours. There were 115 entries! It was impressive, but there were a lot of empty spaces. The only faults were that the parade entries weren't well managed, and there were a lot of walking entries and not many floats.
Around 6 we joined a group of friends for a picnic, and later fireworks. Here in Oklahoma they sell a wide array of normally illegal fireworks, and we had our fair share of ones that launched, crackled, and went BOOM! Most of the kids liked the display, especially the biggest kid, and pyro, Jeff.

When night came, we made our way over to UCO, a local university in Edmond, for the fireworks display. We'd heard that the display would be the biggest yet because of this year is Oklahoma's Centennial celebration. WE WERE NOT DISAPPOINTED!! The display lasted for at least 30 minutes, ending with the longest, loudest, and most colorful finale any of us had seen.
By 12:30 a.m. when we finally crawled into bed, all of us were well beyond exhaustion. Overall, it was another fine holiday.
As is typically the cliche, the July 4th certainly makes you reflect on what a wonderful country we live in, and most especially, what a great sacrifice many people have made for our freedom. From our family to all of those serving and who have served - THANK YOU FOR YOUR SACRIFICES!!!
