Potty Training is a Bust

Yesterday was the big day, we had been prepping Hannah for potty training. I had everything ready, potty charts, stickers, m&m's, prizes, etc. She seemed really excited about it & was thrilled to pick out the panties of choice first thing in the morning.

The first hour was a little rough, I was allowing too much time to pass between potty breaks considering the amount of liquid I was pushing on the girl. I was setting a time & within 2 or 3 minutes before it was supposed to go off she would pee. So I would cut the time down by 5 minutes, but it kept happening. After talking to some people & getting different suggestions we were doing better, we were taking lots more potty breaks, I wasn't giving her quite as much to drink, I was asking her every couple of minutes if she needed to go & we were having success.

But it didn't take long for the novelty to wear off & it was more of a battle to get her to go sit on the potty. When the timer went off she would scream & yell or even run away. I tried to continue being encouraging & cheer for her successes. Tonight I went out & bought more prizes, once that would really excite her.

Today, day 2, things just seemed to continually get worse. It seemed good at first, the prizes really were exciting to her, but the novelty of those wore off. She put up more fights & just seemed to hate the whole process. After her nap I asked if she wanted to go take her diaper off & put panties on & she said no, & that she wanted to wear diapers for a few more days. She stated that she is still a little bit small & will wear panties in a few days. (Everything is a few days to this girl.) So I didn't push the issue, but I would ask her every 30 minutes or so if she wanted to change. She was not interested & I've decided that potty training is going to be put on the back burner for now. I always said that I wouldn't force it on my kid & this seems to be too big of a battle, & she is stubborn enough that I fear she will turn it into a control thing.

The potty charts are still hanging, I will still try to put her on the potty before bath time & we'll just take it slow for now. Yes, she's 3, but it's not like she is going to start school next month, so no rush for now.

We've been starting to work with Jaci a little too. The novelty has already worn off, I've had enough and am tired of doing it, so I guess we'll just wait. Good luck to both of us! :)

Have you tried just stripping her down? We just took all of Jace's clothes off for a week and put his potty in front of the TV with some cartoons. The bad part about that is you have to not leave the house for an entire week. Hopefully Clara is as easy as Jace was. I think Jace was just ready though because he has extra sensitive skin and kept getting diaper rashes that were pure torture. Good luck. Hannah will be okay.
