Back when it was just Jeff & I we had a tendency to drag our birthdays out for what we called birthday weekends, longs weekend, or even birthday weeks. It has turned into a bit of a joke in the family, but doesn't stop us from dragging it out. This year we sort of did that for Milo.

We ordered him a trike & it came last week. I was so excited I could have gone in & got him up from his nap early just to give it to him right then... but I didn't. When Jeff got him & went in & took a look he was so excited that we decided since Milo didn't really understand the whole birthday thing we would give it to him then. So we put it together & took it out for a ride.

Of course we made a bigger deal about the day on his actual birthday, starting out with the birthday song. It didn't take him long to love the song, but when we anyone would tell him "Happy Birthday" he would either say "Noooo" or would wish them a happy birthday also. He really loved all of the phone calls he received & all of the singing. By the end of the day he could nearly sing the birthday song. And what birthday wouldn't be complete without more sugar than one should eat. I couldn't tell the birthday boy no!
Hannah kept talking about Milo's birthday party & who she was going to invite. I tried to break it to her that he wasn't going to have a party, but that went over like a lead balloon. So I decided to put together a low key party the evening of his birthday. We just invited a few friends to join us at Hafer Park, where the kids could play or fish in the little pond (Milo's latest obsession is fishing). The kids had a great time playing & we sang to Milo before enjoying cupcakes.

I had made a little balloon cake (per Milo's request... the kids LOVES balloons) but because of the wind we didn't even pull it out at the park to do candles. By the time we got home he was beat, & I spaced it off the next night... so tonight we finally pulled the untouched cake out of the fridge, lit some candles & sang him his final birthday song.
