Dirty Windows

I love nice clean windows and mirrors. But in my short 5 1/2 years of experience with children, I have learned that they don't feel the same way. They seem to be drawn to clean glass, or really just glass in general. Boys on the other hand seem to be bothered by the clean glass. I have to admit that I do love a good hand print.... this one has been there for quite awhile
. I washed our storm door and within 30 minutes Milo was using his popsicle to draw all over the door. There are times when I clean my glass doors I take an extra 30 seconds staring at the clean glass.
They entertained each other the other day... Viv on the inside, while the other two were outside.

I've been told, by those who no longer have little ones at home, that this will last only a short time and I will one day long for dirty windows. I can actually see the truth in that, and so I am choosing to enjoy my dirty windows. I heart this great quote from a great lesson in Relief Society on Sunday...
"A home clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy."
That is how I am choosing to have my home from now on!

How Sad...

How sad is it that I have some great pictures from the last month that I haven't got around to posting?

How sad is it that my mom had to see these pictures on my friend's blog?

How sad is it that my personal photographer, who happens to be my "Bestie" (as Jeff refers to her) moved away this weekend?

Well I'll tell you ... it's sad all the way around!

Remember back in May, we had an anniversary?
Well we actually got a sitter and went out!
(That is HUGE for us!)
We went out with 2 other couples, who have the same anniversary, to Big Truck Tacos.
Not very fancy, but very VERY tasty!

Remember that holiday that marks the beginning of BBQ season & summer?
We spent our Memorial Day outside. We had friends over for ribs, but after a rib disaster we ended up eating burgers and hot dogs.
The kids ran wild & did a bang up job of watering the yard.
Except for my cute little Viv.. She sat on the sidelines with Kristen & I watching.
There was enough water to turn gravel into mud... Only boys are capable of that (sorry Kristen, it's true.. hehe.) But even if it was the boys that turned found the mud, Hannah was the one to start the full body wrap.

Early June marks the beginning of Blackberry season here... and so we met up with Kristen and the boys early one morning & spent a hot sticky morning picking lots of berries.
You can't really tell in this picture, but while I thought she was sitting peacefully in the stroller, she was actually grabbing any berries she could get her hands on.
I was sad to see all the purple stains on her dress. Thanks to Kristen's middle man & their blackberries, she was able to pass on some valuable cleaning tips.
Here are the little people after we had picked and paid.

I decided to go dig up last years picture... why must they continue to grow?!?

Love This...

I love these little people of mine...
but sometimes frustration gets the best of me, and sometimes I feel overwhelmed. These are times I think "Motherhood is hard!!"
I LOVE this post over at Clover Lane, I could read it every morning to feel empowered and ready to take on the day.
I love Clover Lane! (Thanks for the heads up on that one Dani.)

Who Was It?

So who was it that didn't prayer for me and the 50 wonderful markers Hannah received? Just as I predicted, my little Milo go them & made a little masterpiece before church last week.

No, this is not the masterpiece...
This is his work of art....
I think she must have either been in shock or enjoyed herself, because as I was in doing Hannah's hair she was quiet. She has this little cry that I know as the "Help me, someone is torturing me, or headed to torture me!"
See this marker, notice the tip is white? It WAS a black marker, a nice vanilla smelling marker. It seems as though it smelled so good that Milo sucked it dry!
See why I needed your prayers on the matter?

As a little side note... Jeff was laying on the couch sleeping through it. He needs to fine tune his hearing!

P.S. Anyone with little boys as "busy" as mine, please tell me stories to make him seem "normal"

Remember the Orange Juice?

Well that isn't the only sticky drink out there, as I found out last week
(this was actually the day after the orange juice)...
Chocolate Milk is a little on the sticky side, but not as bad as O.J.
Don't let this sweet face fool you... even if this one was an accident, he managed to make another chocolate milk puddle while I cleaned this one up. He saw my frustration (may have heard a little of it also) and said he was going to the playroom to play. Good idea, buddy!!

After cleaning up I found him in the playroom doing this....
That's a tube of toothpaste!

June really hasn't been my month...
It started off with Milo finding, & removing the safety cap off of a bottle of gun solvent. He managed to make a few puddles of that as well (one of which I found Vivien sitting in!) It also seemed through is ramblings that he drank out of the bottle. That poison control call is one I could have gone my whole life without!!

Earlier This Week...

On Monday morning I was headed to the gym when I noticed the street didn't look very drivable...
Seeing all the water coming down the street made Jeff & I wonder how much would be in the canal.
It was quite impressive, but not as much as this... That's a bad way to start a day.
On my way back home I passed this little guy in the middle of the road, he was still alive!
Jeff threw him into the canal for me
We got around 8 inches of rain throughout the day!
We didn't need to water the rest of the week.

You Know You're Old When...

FYI: THIS POST CONTAINS FAR TOO MUCH INFORMATION ON A PARTICULARLY PRIVATE MATTER. IF YOU'RE EASILY OFFENDED, GROSSED OUT, OR YOU GET EASILY UPSET WHEN PEOPLE SHARE TOO MUCH ABOUT THEIR PRIVATE LIVES, SKIP THIS POST. I EXPECT NO COMMENTS ON THE GROSSNESS OR "OVERSHARING" OF THIS POST. IF NOT, OR YOU'RE SOME PERVERTED PEEPING TOM, PLEASE ENJOY.

**the following is posted by jeff. I want to clear that up now, as not to be associated with this story.**

There are far too many signs in one's life that you're getting old. Sagging parts; wrinkly skin, excessive hair-loss and balding; not-so-dashing good looks; weight gain; and medical problems. Unfortunately, each of us faces our own (or multiple) old-age-foes. My condolences to those readers who suffer from one, if not many of these problems.

Fortunately, I'm the epitome of good health and good looks. Those "routine" problems have not affected my stunning good looks, nor my physical or mental health.

That is, until Wednesday. I finally got a taste of what old age is like. Please take me back!

Wednesday started like any other routine day. I woke up, ran 40 0 miles; ate a healthy breakfast (I think we made nutritious portions of biscuits and gravy), and left for work. The day seemed like any other normal day.

My normalcy changed though about 3 p.m., when I started feeling a significant pain in my arse (no I wasn't my family). The slow ache centered (literally) on or near that excrement hole. I gingerly negotiated a trip to the pizza store, and a picnic with my kids while Megan tended to our Cub Scout responsibilities.

By 7, the pain was nearly unbearable. For the next hour, I comforted my arse by sitting and relieving the pressure and pain. I suffered the rest of the evening with doses of Tylenol and ibuprofen, mixed with some teaspoon shots of some other left-over liquid pain killer.

Megan, being the ever preceptive, but untrained physician, quietly commented that she thought I had a hemorrhoid. "A hemorrhoid," I said. "What the hell is a hemorrhoid?" I thought that's what old people get, or at least my parents. Young and strapping lads like me, we don't  get those. Megan pulled out the prescription-strength hemorrhoid cream she'd used during Thing 2's pregnancy. "HOLY SH**!" I thought. "You suffered with one of these for 9 months. YOU'RE A GOD OF PAIN!" We retired to bed. Me miserable, Megan surely gloating in the satisfaction of sweet revenge. (Note: sweet revenge is best served on others, not on yourself.)

On Thursday, I attended to my work duties, with the tube of cream in hand, followed with a diligent regimen of 800 mg of pain meds. I didn't think the ain could get worse, but let me assure you that when you get a "hemi" in your arse, it probably packs as much pain power on day 2 as the hemi-charged Dodge vehicles.

On Friday, I cried. I finally had to poop, and the pain I thought couldn't get worse finally did. I nearly threw up. I don't know why we don't use torturous activities like these to make people talk. I've decided that wouldn't make a good secret agent after this experience. I'd have to take the suicide pill, because I couldn't keep silent through hours, days, or months of torture. Everyone talks, and I'd sing like a canary. Sorry CIA recruiter, I can't join.

After my near-death experience, I felt fine. Like a new man. The worst was over. In fact, I was more productive at work that I'd been in 3 days.

I came home, walked in the door, and before giving me a kiss, Megan asked, "what's all over your butt." I dropped "trow," to find a brownish-red spot soaked through on my pants. In the bathroom I discovered that my underwear contained a significantly larger bloody mess.

"HOLY SH**!" I thought. "You women go through this kind of craziness once-per-month!" I feared I'd either die from blood loss, or need to constantly change a maxi pad to contain the mess. There's nothing like blood coming from the nether-regions to make you feel less manly too. On the brightside, the pain was nearly all gone.

The relief didn't last long. Saturday surprised me with anal pain and bleeding. So much that I made a quick decision to visit the insta-care for treatment. Yes, unfortunately the "solve-all" internet could not send me enough information to provide advice - except if you count the "get to a doctor, that's serious."

At the insta-care, the doctor confirmed the existence of a thrombosed hemorrhoid (Google it). Not just 1, but 3. Apparently, the hemorrhoid had filled with blood clots, which caused the pain (more than normal), and bleeding. Until the clots got removed, I'd continue to have pain and bleeding.

The process for removing the clots is called a thrombectomy. Basically, it involves grabbing the hemorrhoid, tearing it out of the anal cavity, and squeezing it like a zit until it gooshes (the medical term) out. CLINCH YOUR BUTT CHEEKS BECAUSE IT'S A PAINFUL AS IT SOUNDS. (Don't drool you zit-picking lovers, it isn't nearly as fun for the recipient, although you'd probably enjoy it immensely.) Remember too, the only way to access, or get good access to, the affected area is by having the patient squat partially naked on all fours like a dog. (Now wipe that picture of me out of your mind.)

The doctor used a local anesthetic (yep, inserted again into the anus - CLINCH EVEN TIGHTER) to try and numb the area for the upcoming pain. Then, when I still felt pain, the doctor followed the local with a "freezing" spray, which didn't work. Then the doctor ordered the "heavy" meds, and informed me I'd need to get a ride home. The IV meds didn't work either, so I just gritted my teeth, sweating heavily, and tried not to pass out. Note to the CIA: I think I could bear a little bit of torture, but if I could have stopped it by spilling my guts, it's done.

As if to comfort me a bit more, the doctor did say that it was the biggest (apparently they're quite common) thrombosed hemorrhoid she'd ever seen. Apparently, it was the size of your two thumbs put together (if you have big thumbs, then it was huge. If you have small thumbs, add 1 or 2 more). Oh yeah, did I mention that I displayed all my glory in front of another woman, and didn't care? Now I understand why women giving birth give up all dignity to get the job done.

Following the procedure, I felt immediate relief. The best I'd felt in 4 days. I went home, slept a while to wear off the narcotics, then relaxed for the remainder of the evening. There was a slight pain last night (she might not have got everything), but this morning, everything is perfect, except for the remainder of the bleeding. WHAT A RELIEF! Certainly the best $500 I've ever spent!

There's really no pain I've ever felt that amounted to this experience. I learned a few lessons:
1. NEVER GET HEMORRHOIDS!
2. If you do, get a powerful pain medication, and find someone to cater to you as you lay on the couch.
3. If you bleed, go to the doctor. Grit your teeth, get the thrombectomy done. 150% instant relief.
4. If you're grossed out by this, you probably shouldn't have read it. Go back to the top & read the disclaimer.
5. Eat more fiber.

Odd

Here is Viv with her 5 teeth... not sure if the other one is going to come in on the bottom, but I wish it would! (I have a thing with odd numbers.)
But look at that face... I never tire of looking at, squishing, nibbling, & kissing it!

Sticky Situations...

See that empty spot on the 2nd shelf down... right in front of the Prego? That is where I placed the pitcher of orange juice after breakfast. My friend Milo is very independent... he very rarely asks for help, and on the off chance that he does, he doesn't wait long for you to find the time to help.

This morning I was sending some e-mails out for scouts, (Jeff and I are den leaders) after finishing up, I walk into the kitchen and notice a large puddle in the middle of the floor. I assume its water from Milo, (he has a thing for the water dispenser on the fridge,) and tell him that we don't dump water on the floor. As I round the corner I notice the empty juice pitcher on the little table and the puddle on it. I quickly realize the other puddle isn't water, it's juice! (Yes, sticky substance puddles!) To his credit, he did take a towel and attempt to sop it up.
I didn't think to take a picture of the mess until after the puddles were sopped up, and I opened the fridge and saw another one waiting for me...
(This picture really doesn't do his efforts justice!)
This is when the deep breathing began. I grabbed the camera to document another example of why I call him Trouble. The kids came in at this point and informed me that the floor was sticky... really?!? I took Milo and got him settled with some blocks next to Vivie.

Do you know how sticky orange juice is? Well I think I went over the mess about 6 times with a rag (rinsing really well in between) and then mopped it another 3 or 4 times. While I mopped I thought I'd post a little public service announcement about the stickiness of o.j. Before I could finish cleaning up this mess Milo began whining, which turned to crying and quickly escalated to screaming. I imagined Vivien ruining a big tower of blocks he had made or perhaps holding him in a headlock.
.I came around the corner and noticed him holding his neck, I asked if Viv had grabbed him, but couldn't understand him through the tears.
Upon closer inspection I realized it was gum!
It seems that he had stretched the gum into a nice long piece and swung it over his head, where it got stuck on his neck. It was also on both wrists.
I didn't have to give much of a lecture, but through my giggling I pointed out that we chew our gum, not play with it. I do wish Jeff would have been here to take a picture as I buttered down the little monkey to get the gum out. He seemed to be loving the butter and gum combo as he licked himself clean.
P.S. Hannah received a package in the mail containing 50 new markers! Pray for me!

We Call Him Trouble...

I was in the bathroom trying to quickly finish getting ready so we could head out and I could hear Milo and Vivien laughing. It was a contagious laugh... but the kind that guaranteed he was up to no good. I called Hannah in to do her hair and asked what he was up to, and she said I didn't want to know. I geared myself up for a mess & came out to this...
In case you're wondering... It's shredded wheat, broken into each little individual shred.
The pictures are of a small area around the chair he was standing on, and not of what he through all over the room.

I spent a good long time vacuuming the mess up... it didn't vacuum up as easily as I'd thought.
There is a reason I've nicknamed him, Trouble... and he actually answer to it!
