Carb-it-Up!

I'm a self-admitted carboholic. I'd much prefer a tasty bread or other delicacy, to some piece of chocolate snack. Megan gets rather sick of the carbohydrate overload, but I can continue eating to my heart's content. That's why this week went rather well, for me at least.

On Wednesday, I used some sourdough starter to make some sourdough bread. It wasn't as sour as I would have liked, but it had some nice flavor. After reading some stuff online, I discovered that sourdough doesn't taste the same. Each region has it's own unique taste. What's more, if you allow it to ferment out, it's going to gather an different taste altogether. I think that's my problem. Nonetheless, the first batch was great!

That's why, on Friday evening, I started a 2nd batch, and made two long loaves. This turned out much nicer, and had a great flavor.

Which made for excellent Toast Français Farcies au Levain avec des Fraises et des Bleuets:

That's also another reason why I believed that this morning's breakfast should incorporate these:

Delicious and nutritious!
If you'd like the recipe for the sourdough bread, it's here. You can get the starter here.
I like Alton Brown's pretzel recipe, but you might want to 1/2 it because it makes 8 GIGANTIC pretzels.

As Alton likes to say, both breakfasts were "Good Eats".

I asked Jeff if I could add my 2 cents, he said no. So I'll just make a comment.
Please don't judge me on carrying all the extra baby weight for so long, you now all see through Jeff's carb posts why I can't seem to win. So rather than fight it, I grab another yummy carb & ask for someone to pass the butter.

Megan- I love your comment. I guess that is the ONLY good thing about my husband not cooking :)

Jeff- You rock! I might just try these out. Home-made pretzels sounds like a lot of fun. Thx for sharing!
