Mr. Tee turned 30 on Saturday & we have basically been counting down for a year! I went back and forth on party plans (seems to be something I do often... I have a hard time making up my mind.) and I decided to do a party here at our house. This was going to be an adult only party (no, not an "adult party" just one without our kids) because I thought we would enjoy a night without having to keep one eye & ear on our kids. We would have dinner, play game and talk. I had invited 6 other couples, and only 3 or 4 were going to be able to make it. I was going to order food from Kansas City BBQ around the corner from our house.
All week we had been warned about another storm heading our way... at one point we were to expect 10 inches of snow. Well this had me a little concerned, thinking that some people may not want to venture out in that & some people may have a hard time finding a babysitter. So I held off on ordering the food and making the cake. By Thursday afternoon after hearing of some trouble finding a babysitter, I decided to hold off on the party... I wasn't sure if I should cancel or just postpone it for a week. Well I opted to cancel & we decided to do dinner on Friday night at Texas Roadhouse. This seemed to be great, it was before the storm & even more people might be able to make it. The Bug & I were going to drop Mr. Tee off at work Friday so we could go buy him a birthday gift. Well on the way to his office The Bug began to puke! So I looked at Mr. tee & said, "Take us home, we don't need the car!" I was so bummed, but probably not as bummed as the birthday boy! I was also a little irritated at the mom who came to our playgroup on Wednesday and they told us that her son had been up puking all night!!
Once home, I proceeded to call everyone & inform them that we would not make it to dinner! So I decided to get hopping on the birthday cake, so at least I could try and salvage his birthday. The flu bug didn't seem like a bad one, The Bugwas back to normal before bed, so I started planning (in my head this time) a way to still make Mr. Tee's 30th as great as I could. Saturday morning after he played some racquetball and then we headed out to run some errands. I told him we would head home, put The Bug down for a nap & I was going to run to the grocery store. So we did just that, but before the grocery store I went to Academy sports to pick up a birthday gift or two. On the way home I decided I would call the Davis' when I got home and see if they wanted to meet us for steak that night. But much to my surprise, I arrived home to find out that now Mr. Tee had the flu. I believe his exact words were: "This is the worst birthday EVER!" Poor guy, can't catch a break! So the afternoon involved naps & crackers for him. He did mange to open up his gifts (with some help from The Bug of course), but we opted to hold off on the cake for today.
Mr. Tee was feeling a bit better this morning, but still not back to normal. We stayed home from church (I thought that was more kind than sharing these great germs.) So today has been very low key, I just put a lasagna in the oven for dinner. As much as Mr. Tee loves lasagna, I don't think it will make up for such a sad weekend. Hopefully this day of rest will heal our little home. The Bug did take a great nap, which was much needed, and Jeff is napping as I sit here. I did put candles in the cake and sang to him, and he was a good sport and went along with it. I hope his wish involved me NOT getting this flu, but I didn't tell him that.
I know that I need to somehow make this birthday up to him, but I don't know if that is possible, or how to do so. I really did try & it seemed that the harder I tried, the more the forces fought against me. Hopefully this birthday weekend isn't an indicator of how the rest of Mr. Tee's year will go!
