Dumbing It Down

My friend Chelsea had tested her Blog's Readability here and seemed to be disappointed in the fact that her blog's reading level was that of a College undergraduate. I wanted to check out my blog's reading level & I was in shock when I saw that it said Junior High School! I frantically began checking a number of blogs on my reader. Some of your reading levels surprised me, while others did not. I'm not sure how it grades, I'm thinking it has to do with the vocab used, right? But maybe not, it spits out a score rather quickly. Where did I go wrong?
I guess I should have used more medical terminology last year while Hannah was sick. I should have typed out cryptosporidium, rather than crypto. Along with all of the other big fancy words describing her condition & series of medical tests. Perhaps a few posts about my previous job working for a group of Pediatric Surgeons would help up my blog's readability, while informing my readers about medical conditions such as umbilical & inguinal hernias; Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (or GERD) Gastroschisis, G-Tubes (oops there I go with abbreviations, those are a form of dumbing it down) Pyloric Stenosis, Pectus Excavatum & Pectus Carinatum. I could tell stories about the surgeons on the Liver Transplant team, or how they got started on the Trauma team, but those are rather dull stories involving a lot of words you would hear in your medical terminology course. (Oh, that's what I'm trying to do right?)
I was continually bothered by how low my blog scored, so I will no longer be dumbing down my blog for all of you. From this moment in our existence I shall be using a larger vocabulary, so go blow the dust mites off your dictionaries and prepare yourselves. Or perhaps I'll continue being lazy & abbreviating as much as I can... just to make it easier on my readers. I don't want people to lose interest in my blog, because they feel that they don't understand what a highly educated person as myself is saying (an associates degree from a community college makes one highly educated, right?)
Well the truth is, I decided to just deal with my blog's reading level... to accept it & embrace it for what it is, until I decided to run a test on this little blog Jeff has going on the side (Yep, he's two-timing all of you! But don't feel bad, it's not the most exciting read... Jeff, don't be mad at me, but you know it's a little bit true.) After seeing the readability of his blog I knew why it couldn't hold my attention.... It's at the reading level of a GENIUS!! So if you feel that I dumb this blog down too much & can't enjoy my humor (I ask Jeff all the time if I'm funny, & he says yes, so it must be true) you obviously are above my Junior High School blog. Go, go to where they proof read a couple of times & use bigger words for more educated people. And don't worry, when you get bored over there, I'll still be here... waiting for you with open arms & small words.

** UPDATE UPDATE** After doing a little research I decided to put the URL in for individual posts, rather than the main blog page. I went back putting in each post over the last month & they all came up genius. How can stand alone posts being tested be genius, but tested as a whole be Junior High? I know the math doesn't add up, but let's not check our work, because I'm happy with the answer!

Ha ha, I'm at high school level! Thanks goodness for that Bachelors degree, huh. They checked it pretty fast. I wonder how they figure their score?

my friend's blog says its Genius, but there is no way because its 99% pictures. Maybe thats why its genius, no one has to read..lol. My blog level was junior high as well. A little light reading never hurt anyone.

I was high school, but it wasn't consoling after I knew there was a genius level...

I decided to put it to the test, and I tried out my Bon Qui Qui sketch post. It was "Genius." While I think the sketch itself is ingenious, it merely says, "I love this sketch." If that's genius, then I've been going about intelligence all wrong.
