Last year we actually went down to Rush Springs for the Watermelon Festival, & I recall enjoying it. But thinking back I just remember the heat & a sick kiddo (it was too early in Hannah's illness for us to realize what we were in for. So even though the thought of the Watermelon Festival gave me a slight twitch I actually was all for it! That was until I was at the store & saw that they had Rush Springs Watermelons!!
I was able to pick out a beauty of a melon for under $6, without the 2 hour drive! It was such a tasty melon that we went back to the store a couple days later & bought not one, but TWO more. This time we got a yellow flesh one & a black diamond melon. The yellow isn't as sweet & it seems that the color messes with your head, because you know it's watermelon, but it doesn't seem to taste right. But if you close your eyes & eat a piece it's fine. Strange huh? The black diamond was fabulous!! Jeff picked out the biggest one he could find & we figure it was over 30 lbs! Needless to say we were eating watermelon for awhile!
