I made the mistake of not showing enough enthusiasm for the Olympics to Jeff & he has taken my lack of enthusiasm as slowly turned into me hating the Olympics. (His words, not mine.) I don't hate the Olympics! I can sit down, watch & enjoy them just like most of you. But where I differ is I CAN walk away, & I don't feel some invisible force pulling me to the television all day. (Perhaps I'm just in a habit of not having the tv on during the day, so I would have to make a conscious effort to remember to go turn them on.) I can't believe how many times the Olympics have been brought up in conversations, & even when I go along with the subject people can tell I'm not as die hard as they are & they seem shocked!Olympics, I HATE to LOVE you, & I LOVE to HATE you. Those are stronger words than I actually feel, but go with me. (I can't promise this will go anywhere.) I do enjoy watching a good number of the Olympic events, but I can't help my mind from wondering during this "exciting season." While Jeff rewind to fill me in on some of his favorite parts of the opening ceremonies, I was amazed at Beijing's attempts to wow us all, I couldn't help but wonder the cost of the Olympics & how perhaps the money could go to something else. This is a thought that is always front & center as I watch, & I am amazed at the talent & strength of the athletes. But when I hear some story about some serious injury & surgery required, perhaps replacement surgery, & here they are after a long road of physical therapy competing once again, I am amazed. Now the media tells these stories in a way that I know I should be so impressed, but I just think "WHAT!?! Are you insane!" I could go on, but I won't. I read this blog post the other day & loved that there is someone else out there who isn't all doped up on the Olympic High everyone else seems to be riding, she even seems to dislike them more than me.
So Jeff, I apologize for not being as enthused as some, I'll try harder to show a real interest in the things you enjoy. HA! Of you can appreciate my concern for all the resources going into the Olympics. Perhaps we need to throw parties for the opening ceremonies & then I'd look forward to the Olympics as much as the next person... because I love a good party!

I'm sort of with you, if I remember they are on and turn on the TV, I like watching, but I'm not drawn to them like some. I'd rather talk while someone does dishes!!!!
Mims xoxoxoxoxo
That's so funny that you wrote this. I was just thinking of how I would never watch them and that this is the first year that I've actually sat and paid attention to what was going on. I have some favorite parts but im not drawn to it like most. I don't even watch it at our house, I've just started to watch because we have been going to our friends house at night and stick around to watch with them - kt
AMEN! I feel exactly the same way and Trav thinks I'm crazy!
I love the Olympics - my hubby DVRs them, and we do the quick fast-forward version so we can catch the highlights. I love that i brings the world together (even if its just a fake comraderie). And I love the sappy stories, and the pride and patriotism.
I don't have tv. I know nothing of the olympics, the news, The Office...
